Gas Station Collab
Wowzers! This project was so fun to create! It started as an idea for another birthday shoot. Last year, I used my birthday as a time to reinvent myself & set the tone for my year, but this year I really needed to just relax & enjoy my day for what it was. Most people don’t plan out their own photo shoots & do the work of a team all alone. For me, that’s what leading up to a shoot day consist of. I absolutely love having a glam squad, but because I’m building my individual portfolio for free lance work I want to show my range of abilities. I scouted the location, creative directed, modeled & did my own glam & styling. I feel that when someone creative directs, it gets overlooked. It’s often assumed that the photographer did all the work and the model just showed up. Sometimes that is very well the case, but as a viewer you only see the finished product. People just want to know who shot it. It’s forgotten that there’s people working behind the scenes to make the shoot successful. A mood has to be created with every detail. This is the niche I work in. I vlogged a get-ready-with-me/behind the scenes (GRWM/BTS) video to show some footage of me getting ready, talking about the style and inspiration of the shoot and giving an opportunity to see a different side of me. A lot of my content thus far is based around spirituality, but I’m an artist and creator before anything else.
I brought back cinematographer, Jiggie Jay, to capture motion and welcomed Film Photographer, Deja XO, to capture the stills. Together, we created gems with a nostalgic twist, channeling my exact mood for 2021. This project was shot all at once on Jan. 30th. It’s been marinating for about a month & a half while both parties worked on developing and editing the content. I couldn’t have created these visuals without them!
