Working w/ Music Videos
On the “About Her” webpage, I mention how creative direction has become a big part of my identity since transitioning from fashion design focus. Like my blog post, “Back When I Designed Clothes…” I wanted to offer visuals to show some of the groundwork I’ve done in the past. My first time working on a video shoot was back in 2015 on a project creating some promotional material for my clothing designs. Half of high school and a little after was filled with experimental fashion, styling, direction & set creation. From 2016 - 2018 I had the pleasure of working with singer : Carlton Perry on visuals for two singles! He initially brought me on set for his song “Know” in 2016 to create the feminine aspects & energy of the shoot. This opportunity with Carlton Perry, however, was my first time working outside my own projects & putting my self-taught skills to the test on someone’s set besides my own. My experience comes first hand. My confidence to put myself out here as a creative director comes not from having it handed to me, but taking the opportunities to step in where I was needed! Though I was working in a niche — only in charge of directing the video vixen— Carlton & his crew enjoyed working with me so much, they invited me to be on set of his “Believe” video shoot in 2018. Why the 2 year gap? Carlton & his crew wanted to create the vibe of a short film with this video which took a little more time to plan. On this video/short set I didn’t style the girls, but I did direct them on set. I helped bring their characters to life working along side cinematographer Kel Bonton and other crew members. This experience was very important in helping me solidify the passion I’ve developed for directing.
